A letter to Seventeen year old Me.

Writer's picture: Courtney DeamerCourtney Deamer

Dear Me at Seventeen,

I know it feels like you're never going to make it. You're just coming out the other side of those awkward teenage years. And you're still figuring out who your real friends are going to be.

You're scared and honestly I can't blame you.

The art of letting go of what you can't control will take years to master, I'm still practising.

You feel like you don't belong in your own skin. I know you're trying to find where you fit in. You just want to be loved and it feels like there are roadblocks with every turn you make.

You drink like a fish, you're the life of the party. You're ready to take off, before you even land. But something is always missing.

You dream that you're going to die young and you live your life like it'll be gone tomorrow, but surprisingly that's the part of you that I still admire, that freedom that you harness.

You are your own worst critic, ease up and be kind to you. That voice inside your head, try to change it, to love you instead.

I just wish you knew that you still do have a full life ahead of you. Don't be in a rush. You can and you will do everything you have ever dreamed of. Never stop admiring those stars that you reach for.

You are so much smarter than you believe, you sell yourself short. Hard work always pays off and all that grit you apply helps you appreciate it so much more.

Sometimes you're told that you are too much and then other times you're made to feel that you're not enough. But you are the perfect amount of everything and in time you'll find the confidence to trust that this is true.

With every heartbreak, you will find a strength that you have never known that you had inside of you.

You're going to be let down from time to time, but from those let downs you will grow an abundant courage.

You will learn to rely on yourself, you're independence will be appreciated by many and loathed by more, but it's a necessary attribute that you should never appolagise for.

You're going to face hurdles that stop you in your tracks, but you're so resilient, they'll never hold you back. You are a force to be reckoned with, always remember that.

The mountains you're going to climb will at times feel like they're going to break you for good, but you're so much stronger than you give yourself credit for. You will always prevail.

You're going to experience love and happiness, that you could never have imagined. The wait will be well worth it.

Things won't always make sense right away, but always trust your gut, your intuition is dependable. First impressions are reliable.

I know how crazy, intense, beautiful and wild it is to be you, I am you, I lived you. Even with the heartbreak, the awkwardness, the curve balls and the fails, I wouldn't change a thing. In every challenge there is a lesson. There is a fork in every road. And even when every door closes, you'll find a window that leads you onto next path.

Please believe that your life is worth living. You will go on, you will do great things. You will bloom, you will flourish and you are going to love the places that you'll go.

You do have a purpose and you do have a place.

Love from, Me here at Twenty Seven.

P.S Don't stop exercising while it's still easy.

P.P.S Moisturise more. And drink more water too.
